Literature

The clear things that came out of my brain storm were Literature. I really enjoy text, language and stories. Another thing is how much I dream and fantasise and I'm heavily influenced by Tim Walker. I love Tim Walkers work and how his images seem to have a story behind them.
This has lead me to think about fantasy/fairy tale books as sources of inspiration for this project. This represents my sometimes childish nature and my vivid imagination. I loved reading tales as a child and really feel like I can show my skills well through this. I have started by thinking about popular pieces of literature.
Famous Literature:
The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe
Harry Potter
Frankenstein
Little Women
Alices Adventures in Wonderland
Romeo and Juliet
Peter Pan

Hans Christian Anderson
Roald Dahl
Beatrix Potter

Fairy Tales:
Beauty and the Beast
Cinderella
Sleeping Beauty
Pinocchio
The princess and the Pea
Hansel and Gretel
Jack and the beanstalk

Initial Ideas

Elixir of the Hungarian Horseman

The part that I found most inspiring from Theatre De La Mode was the Elixir of the Hungarian Horseman video. This was for the collection for autumn/winter 2009 based on Hungarian Horseman costume combined with the typical oversized style of the brand. I really like the video, it is the one I relate most to, I really like the way it is put together and I like the tones and imagery used. I like how it shows the concept of the collection but focuses on the outfits just as much, so your never distracted from the clothing.

Theatre De La Mode

Chris Kelly started Theatre De La Mode in 2007. He started by showing his clothing on miniature scale dolls which were animal themed. The collection, Willows, was a new way of showing fashion designs. Theatre De La Mode also have done promotional videos for all of their collections which are in place of the typical runway show. At the time, promotional videos for fashion wasn't really heard of and was seen as new and exciting, also the way they presented their first collection, got them a lot of recognition throughout the fashion industry. However now 2 years later there is more of an emphasis on interactive forms of communication, videos have become a regular aspect of fashion marketing. Chris Kelly found a new way of communicating his work which got him noticed, so I need to embrace the newer interactive areas to create a more exciting end result.

Beginning

This is the start of my project. It will be an 8 week venture into myself as a stylist/designer. Hopefully I will find my philosophy and my own personal style. Throughout this blog I will document my journey which will result in a interactive video and a final styled outfit.
